It was the Labour Party who delivered devolution and a Scottish Parliament over 20 years ago. We have been active ever since developing its powers when the case has been made and Labour will be at the centre of further constitutional reform right across the  U.K. in the future. However, this is a time to be wholly focused on a post Covid recovery. This election isn’t a binary choice about whether or not we have a second independence referendum, however much the SNP and the Tories want to paint it as such. Devolution was designed to deliver Scottish solutions where there are Scottish problems but too often it has been reduced to a row between Nationalists and Unionists, which has taken us nowhere fast. The truth is the SNP have never wanted to make devolution work. It doesn’t suit their argument for independence.
The crisis we face coming out of this pandemic means Scotland deserves better than this. We need a Government – and an opposition – prepared to put the bickering to one side. At this election you can vote for a Parliament where we all work in the national interest to deliver a better future for Scotland. That’s the priority for Scottish Labour in this election.
