It was well into last Saturday evening before Carol Mochan learned she had been elected as a Labour MSP for the South of Scotland. Carol had been the Labour candidate in Ayr, Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley at local Scottish and Westminster elections in the past. Now she looks forward to serving the voters as a Member of the Scottish Parliament. Carol said
‘I never imagined I would be given this privilege. To represent my community, my region, and my party is an incredible honour and I will not let you down. I am going to Holyrood to put power back in your hands and am really looking forward to working with my great South Scotland Labour colleagues, Colin Smyth for Dumfriesshire and Martin Whitfield for East Lothian.
I congratulate Elena Whitham on being elected in the constituency vote, but thanks to the more than 57,000 people across South Scotland who put their trust in Scottish Labour, I will be going to Holyrood to make sure our next Parliament is focused on delivering that National Recovery plan our country needs.
