Carol Mochan has challenged SNP candidate for Carrick Cumnock and Doon Valley, Elena Whitham, to join her in calling for SNP run East Ayrshire Council to scrap their plans to start charging for Brown Bin collections. Elena Whitham is also the Deputy Leader of the Council responsible for bringing in this charge.

“The residents of Cumnock and Doon Valley area are being subjected to a tax on recycling that will add to the strain on household budgets in the midst of a pandemic and lead to an increase in fly-tipping across our communities. The SNP/Tory run Council have turned deaf ears to the public outrage at this decision. The SNP once pledged to do away with the Council Tax. Now they have decided to give us Council Tax plus. I have written to The SNP candidate asking her to join me in demanding that this decision is reversed. She has two problems to wrestle with here. She is Deputy Leader of the council bringing in the charge and East Ayrshire Council has had its budget decimated by cuts imposed by the SNP at Holyrood. Even so, anyone aspiring to be the local MSP should have the guts to stand up to the local council when it has got something so spectacularly wrong regardless of what political party is in charge in Kilmarnock or Edinburgh.”
